Classroom Supply List Grades 6-8

Required Items

___ Bible in an easy-to-understand translation

___ Backpack

___ 1 high-quality three-ring binder, at least 1 ½ inches thick (Zippered is best for less organized students UNLESS they are not willing to zip and unzip it to store their work; it adds an extra step in the organizational process but keeps things from falling out if used.) This also comes home EVERY DAY.

___ 8 subject dividers (slash pockets optional) inserted into binder and neatly labeled Notes Home, Bible, English, Handwriting, Math, Reading, Science, Spelling

___ College-rule paper (wide-rule IF student has been diagnosed with dysgraphia), inserted behind each subject divider, plus 4 spare packs to share & more to keep at home

___ 3 composition notebooks (50 cents at Walmart) neatly labeled in Sharpie with name and Bible Journal, Science Notes, and Math Notes

___ 1 pack graph paper inserted in binder behind the Math tab

___ 100 index cards (ruled on one side, blank on the other side) with rubber band or pony tail holder to keep together) (Group)

___ #2 pencils—buy lots; send several at a time (Fidgety students waste a lot of time with mechanical pencils; avoid these if child is distractible. If sending mechanical, however, also buy plenty of #2 lead refills.)

___ Small hand-held pencil sharpener with piece to catch and hold shavings if using regular pencils

___ 1+ extra pink eraser(s)

___ 2 plastic pencil cases for personal items such as ear buds, calculator & extra pencils at table or desk

___ 1 package of cheap red grading pens—keep two at desk (Group)

___ 2 or more fat dry-erase markers in black (Group)

___ 3 boxes of tissue to share, labeled so we check off who brought theirs (Group)

___ LOTS of standard sized sticky notes with extras to use at home (Group)

___ 4 glue sticks (Group)

___ Small cheap calculator such as Walmart’s $3 version (label!)

___ 1 pair cheap ($3-$5 at Walmart) earbuds in labeled container (pill bottle or Pez dispenser?) or labeled earphones for use with iPads, laptops, and audio players

___ Antiperspirant deodorant (so I don’t have to be The One to tell your child about their body odor problem—welcome to middle school!)

___ PE quality athletic shoes

___ Refillable water bottle

Optional Items (choose a few or none)

___ Scissors (I have a few pairs—Dollar Tree brand are fine.)

___ Regular Sharpie marker in black (NOT Dollar Tree brand—they explode!)

___ 1 white art eraser for more serious artists

___ Calligraphy felt tipped pens

___ Whiteout (only for organized perfectionists who won’t use as “paint”)

___ 1 plastic or durable cardboard pocket folder to insert into binder front to place all completed homework in to return to school

___ 2nd plastic or durable cardboard pocket folder to insert into binder front to place all redo papers in to take home

___ Franklin (or other) spell-checker

___ Folders or pocket tabs for Spanish and History classes (I do not teach either.)

___ Personal set(s) of colored pencils or markers (We have class sets.

Please DO NOT Bring

___ No report covers (too slippery—reports get lost forever!)

___ No electric pencil sharpeners

___ No toys, electronic game, tablet or musical devices (unless asked to bring them)

___ No items promoting un-Christian movies, TV shows, musicians, books, or values (If in doubt, don’t; I am picky.)
